The Representative condos

The Representative Condominium is about an 8 minute walk from both the Yellow and Blue Metro Lines. It was built in 1976 and has 12 floors with a total of 206 units.

The balconies provide views of Rosslyn, Crystal City, Fort Meyer and other parts of Arlington. The back side of the building has excellent views of the Pentagon, the Potomac and the landmarks of Washington D.C.

These luxury condos are supported by street and surface parking as well as three levels of garage parking. Each floor has a laundry room and there are no fees to use the laundry.

There is a pool behind the building. The building has an excellent party room / meeting room facility. Each unit has supplemental storage space.

The Representative on Arlington Ridge Road

The Representative condo community is located at 1101 Arlington Ridge Road in Arlington VA. The Representative overlooks Pentagon Row, the Pentagon and Crystal City. It features a unique architectural style that mixes angles and curves to present interesting angles and shadows.

One of the features that I find intriguing at the Representative is this custom wood trim. The trim is a solid wood and features a tooled pattern that is much more difficult to create than the standard milled pattern. In the picture below this trim is used as a base with a solid ogee trim above and below the featured trim. The base doesn't actually touch the floor but rather, it caps a carpeted base, providing a one-of-a-kind style that is impressive and appealing.

As you can see this trim was carried over onto all the entry doors. The doors have a matching wood stain and the handles of the doors are also solid wood. The units themselves do not disappoint. For those who can afford the price tag, the Representative offers one of the premier residences in Northern VA.

Arlington Historical Society

The oldest school building in Arlington County houses the Arlington Historical Museum. The Arlington Historical Museum is owned and operated by the Arlington Historical Society, a group of concerned local citizens that conduct research and to preserve and disseminate knowledge relating to the history, archaeology, material culture, and geographical and socio-economic development of Arlington County, Virginia.

I recently stopped by the Arlington Historical Musuem and took a quick tour of the exhibits therein. The museum is located at 1805 South Arlington Ridge Road. The location is relatively close to the Pentagon City and Crystal City metrorail stations but sits up on the ridge overlooking Crystal City. The setting is very pleasant and the views here toward Crystal City are very pleasant.

The building itself was the Hume School, named for Frank Hume who gave some of the property for the school. The museum features a working classroom as it might have appeared when the building was used as a school. The building is designated a Virginia State Historical Landmark and is also on the National Register of Historic Sites.

The museum is open to the public only on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 - 4 p.m. If you enjoy local history this is a worthwhile stop. The society's phone number is 703-892-4204.

I didn't take any pictures inside the building ... for a reason. I wanted to tempt you to come in and take a look around. As I was about to leave one of the members of the historical society invited me to ring the school bell before I left! I can proudly say that I have rang the bell at the Hume School.
