Walkability Is a New Desired Amenity
The increasing interest among Americans in walkability is spawning a change in attitude about the desirability of not only urban areas, but also suburbs — both old and new — that have nearby amenities that can be reached on foot.
Having amenities within walking distance can boost the value of a home as much as $3,000, according to one study. Another found that “location efficiency,” a measure of transportation costs, affected the number of foreclosures in a neighborhood.

King Street Community at it’s best
Situated at the foot of Shooter’s Hill at the point where King Street leaves Old Town Alexandria, The King Street Metro provides 30 metered parking spaces (for short time parking) and bike racks as well as car sharing.
At the top of Shooter’s Hill is the George Washington Masonic Memorial where one can look down over King Street to the Potomac. It is only in King Street where one can find an array of shops and restaurants, many of which you would normally find in an elite mall. There are also unique shop stops, boutiques and nightclubs along with fun activities/events.
There are more than 4000 historical buildings of exquisite architecture that were commercialized to house small businesses and homes for a modernized community in Old Town Alexandria. Historic structures are lines with brick sidewalks as well as elegant modern structures.
Because of Old Town’s prestigious real estate, prices are quite costly, but it is a great place to reside in for its historic properties, condominiums, garden style condos, townhouses and houses.
Parking would be sort of a problem especially in areas where tourists flock along King Street so it would be advisable to take the Metro to King Street, then catch a ride on the King Street Trolley, for free, if one would wish to do some sight seeing.

Arlington Ridge-”The Ridge”
Arlington Ridge, being bordered on the north by the Pentagon, the west by the Army-Navy Country Club and south the City of Alexandria, is chock full of beautiful homes, wonderful residents, and alot of history. The Hume School which was built in 1891 is home to the Arlington Historical Society and was a full-working school until 1958. Fort Scott was named after General Winfield Scott, General-in-Chief- of the Army. It was built to protect the capital. These are both well-known historical sites in this community.
Also referred to as “The Ridge” this piece of land was prepared for construction of the Pentagon. It is believed that thousands of years ago the ridge may have been the shore line of the Potomac River. The Ridge also has it’s place in Revolutionary War and Civil War history. Army Navy Drive, formerly known as Old Georgetown Road in 1781, was the route used by General George Washington and the French troops to arrive in Yorktown,Virginia where the British were defeated.
With a Hollywood role as well, Arlington Ridge was featured in the opening of the 1987 film “No Way Out”. With so much beauty and history “the ridge” makes for an ideal place to visit and live.

Come home to Hayfield
Homes for sale near Fort Belvoir and Franconia
Looking for a quiet, suburban community? Look no further than Hayfield.
Hayfield lies between Newington and Franconia. This town is a quiet corner with little traffic or noise. Head downdown and you’ll find Hayfield Plaza Shopping Center – and little else. Huntley Meadow Park occupies most of the south side, which enhances Hayfield’s small-town feel. Even the Coast Guard station in the middle of town is more like a park than a military base with its trees and other landscaping.
That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do in Hayfield. Hilltop Driving Range and Golf Course is nearby. Kingstowne Towne Center can meet your shopping needs. Fort Belvoir is close by.
Although it feels isolated, Hayfield is close enough to the city for commuters to work there.

Spring in the Carlyle District
Spring has sprung in the Carlyle District
The Carlyle District is named for John Carlyle, a Scottish merchant who was a founding trustee and the first overseer of Alexandria, Virginia. The Caryle District is designed to be a vibrant, walkable area with an atmosphere that reflects adjacent Old Town but with a modern urban flair. It is designated a Coordinated Design/Development District (CDD), meaning design and development standards are already in place for an allocated 7 million square feet of office, hotel, residential, and retail space, allowing for faster approval of final plans.
