The Hanging Gardens of King Street Gardens Park
Hanging Gardens
Situated at the foot of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial, the King Street Gardens Park can be found near the King St. Metro of Old Town Alexandria VA and surrounded by numerous hotels, offices, metro stop and AMTRAK.
The King Street Gardens highlight a large metal sculpture with hanging gardens. This sculpture along with the sunken gardens offers references to the historic points of the area. The sculpture features, an abstract metal design of a ship’s prow, a plow or a colonial styled 3 cornered hat. The plantings and the sunken garden give a historic reference to the wetlands that originally was found here. In remembrance of the Victorian Era of Old Town, trellised gardens have been planted accordingly as the street grid followed the original street plan by George Washington.
Everyone in the community can enjoy the beauty of King Street Garden Park especially when concerts and the Old Town Farmer’s Market is set up here.
