Dog Park in Reston
Reston has its own “dog park” at Baron Cameron, 11300 Baron Cameron Avenue, Reston. The park can accommodate 40 dogs, but has a separate area for smaller dogs. The Fairfax County Park Authority has always welcomed leashed dogs in all of its parks. Now, for owners of well-mannered canines who enjoy a good run or a friendly romp, there’s the additional option of dog parks – fenced areas where unleashed dogs can have free play. At present, there are seven established dog parks. Additional off-leash dog areas are in the planning stage.
Users of off-leash dog areas do so at their own risk. Neither Fairfax County nor the Fairfax County Park Authority shall be liable for any injury or damage caused by any dog in the off-leash area. The hours of operation of all off-leash dog areas are dawn to dusk, unless posted otherwise.
Police Investigate Single-Vehicle Crash
Mount Vernon Police District – Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a 47-year-old man. Around 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, Umar Adam was operating a 2008 Honda Civic southbound on South Kings Highway. Near the intersection with Southgate Drive he veered off the road to the right and struck a brick wall. Adam, of 2651 Arlington Drive # 103 in Alexandria, was transported to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. There were no signs of braking prior to the impact. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Filler-Corn wins narrow victory in Virginia’s 41st District
Fairfax Times reports:
“It appears Virginia’s House of Delegates District 41 will remain in Democratic hands. According to unofficial results, Eileen Filler-Corn won the Burke-area precinct by 37 votes over Republican Kerry D. Bolognese.
The margin had originally been reported at 42, but an additional seven provisional ballots were accepted later in the evening.”
This is the closest election, local or otherwise that I can recall in years.
International Style of Architecture
Initiated by European architects–such as Mies van der Rohe–in the early 20th century, this is the style that introduced the idea of exposed functional building elements, such as elevator shafts, ground-to-ceiling plate glass windows, and smooth facades.
The style was molded from modern materials–concrete, glass, and steel–and is characterized by an absence of decoration. A steel skeleton typically supports these homes. Meanwhile, interior and exterior walls merely act as design and layout elements, and often feature dramatic, but nonsupporting
projecting beams and columns. With its avant-garde elements, naturally the style appeared primarily in the East and in California.
Northern Virginia doesn’t have many examples of International architecture, but in Rosslyn the Waterview echoes many of the tenets of this style. Some might call the Atrium an “International”.
